Professional experience:
Darrell started at SAS in the OpenVMS Systems group of Technical Support in 1991. He supported customers on the Digital Equipment Corporation's OpenVMS systems. Next was his first stop in marketing where he served as the product manager for SAS/Connect, SAS/Share, and the SAS/ACCESS suite of products. From there he was a systems engineer in the Public Sector sales organization working with federal, state, and local governments as well as colleges and universities. The next stop was back into marketing and the Enterprise Excellence Center. There he helped roll out environments to enable systems engineers to better showcase the SAS products, set up environments for consultants to simulate customer environments for testing and validation, and tested SAS' integration with other vendors' products. In the SAS Research and Development division Darrell tested the installation of SAS products and helped manage the systems where the testing was taking place. Finally, in October of 2014, Darrell joined the Platform Administration team in Education to help develop and deliver courses on the Platform for SAS Business Analytics. Prior to SAS, he worked at IBM for 2 1/2 years as a software tester in the network software division.

Do you have any hobbies, favorite activities, or hidden talents?
I enjoy cooking, movies, attending and watching various sporting events, and the shooting sports. I also umpire youth league baseball.

What is your favorite place or dream vacation destination?
I have a couple of favorite places. Tops is the Hawaiian island of Kauai but it's hard to get to from North Carolina. Closer to home, is Hilton Head Island, SC. My dream vacation is to spend several weeks visiting New Zealand and Australia.

If you could share a meal with anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?
I think it would be fun to share a meal with the Robertson's of Duck Dynasty. I appreciate their core values and they live on the river, the Ouachita River, that starts not far from one of my hometowns of Mena, AR. They remind me of my family and the good people of Mena. I'm a high tech red neck!

Are you passionate about a particular sports team?
I LOVE college football especially the Texas A&M Aggies...home of the 12th Man (sorry Seattle Seahawks fans...we were first). Since Texas A&M joined the Southeastern Conference I try to make a trip to at least one game a year.
