Usage Note 13206: Attempting a SAS/CONNECT SIGNON to a remote Windows XP server with
Service Pack 2 may fail
Windows XP Service Pack 2, enables the Windows firewall by default. If
the TCPIP Port used by the SAS/CONNECT Spawner has been blocked by this
firewall, the following message will appear during SIGNON:
ERROR: connect call failed, system error is '10060 - WSAETIMEDOUT'.
To circumvent this problem, define SPAWNER.EXE as an exception to the
firewall on the remote system. To define an exception, follow these
steps:
1.) Go to: Control Panel==> Windows Firewall ==> Exceptions
2.) On the Exceptions tab, select "Add Program" and then "Browse".
Search the !SASROOT directory for SPAWNER.EXE.
3.) Highlight the SPAWNER.EXE program and select "Open" to select,
then "OK".
The Spawner service should now be added as an exception to the firewall
and should not block further attempts to attach to the service. The
exception will only continue to occur if the box next to the Spawner
entry in the Exception window is checked.
