Usage Note 10792: If the final expiration date for your SAS® System is passed, an error message appears if you invoke SAS 9.1 after running the Renew SAS Software tool
When you run the Renew SAS Software tool, renewal completes successfully and
the following message appears:
The setinit was successfully applied.
If you try to start SAS, the following error message might appear:
ERROR: The current date of Wednesday, September 10, 2003 is past the
final expiration date for your SAS system, which is Sunday, March
2, 2003.
Please contact your SAS Software Representative to obtain your
updated SETINIT information.
ERROR: Initialization of SETINIT information from SASHELP failed.
FATAL: Unable to initialize the options subsystem.
ERROR: (SASXKINI): PHASE 3 KERNEL INITIALIZATION FAILED.
UNABLE TO INITIALIZE THE SAS KERNEL
The dates in this message will vary, according to the dates that are valid for
your software installation.
The error is caused by using an expired SAS installation data file (SID file).
If you have a personal installation, obtain a current SID file and select
Start ► Programs ► SAS ► SAS 9.1 Utilites ►
Renew SAS Software to re-run the Renew SAS Software utility.
If you do not have the Renew SAS Software utility menu item, try this
method:
- Click Start ► Run, type explorer,
and click OK.
- Go to the !sasroot directory (default location is
C:\Program Files\SAS\SAS 9.1\) .
- Go to the core\sasinst\ directory and run sasrenew.exe.
If you have a Client installation, your administrator will have to
update the SAS installation data file on the server using the SAS
Administrator Wizard.
