Problem Note 2400: Make Computed Column may produce ERROR: Valid length for numeric
variables is 3 to 8
Within a Data Form object (Version 6 Legacy object) or a Form Viewer
control (Version 8.1) in a SAS/AF FRAME entry, if you have created a
numeric Version 6 legacy object such as an input field and its length is
not between 3 and 8, you may receive the following error and program
halt when you drag Make Computed Column from the Column window onto the
component:
ERROR: Valid length for numeric variables is 3 to 8.
The data form object or form viewer control is attempting to create a
computed column with the same length as the component and the error is
produced because the length of the component is invalid for a numeric
computed column.
To correct the problem, change the length of the component. You may
need to clse the frame and then reopen the frame before dragging Make
Computed Column from the Column window again.
