Problem Note 1578: Version 8 may create Version 6 data sets with invalid formats
Version 8 supports variable (in)format widths not allowed in Version
6. For example, $CHARw. where the 'w' value is greater than 200.
Version 8 also allows users to create data sets with V6 engine.
On PC and UNIX platforms, it is possible to create a Version 6 data
set from Version 8 with (in)formats that are invalid in Version 6. No
error or warning is issued until the user attempts to access the data
set in Version 6. At that time SAS stops processing due to the
invalid (in)formats.
This problem is corrected in TSLEVEL 1M0 of Release 8.1.
