Prior to Release 8.1 TS1M0, SAS names variables differently than it did
in Version 6 when the following conditions are all true:

  1) Code used includes the PROC SQL Pass-Through Facility where
     the DBMS column names are allowed to default to column names
     determined by SAS,
  2) The system option VALIDVARNAME is set to V6,
  3) The DBMS table has variable names longer than 8 characters
     in length and more than one group of variables with name
     collisions, and
  4) The DBMS is DB2 on MVS, SQL/DS on CMS, DB2 on AIX, and OS/2
     or INGRES on UNIX and VMS.

This results in a compatibility and possible integrity problem that
may be difficult to detect.  Often there is no message or indication
of a problem reported in the SAS Log.  The only way to determine if a
problem occurred is to compare the results between the current and
prior version of SAS.

The only work around is to rename the columns manually.
