Requirements for Using the Application Dispatcher Version 1.2

You must install both components of the Application Dispatcher. Install the Application Server on a machine where SAS software is running, and install the Application Broker on your Web server. SAS software is not required on the Web server or the local desktop. The following are the installation requirements for the each component.

Requirements for the Application Server

• You must install the Application Server on a machine where SAS software is installed. This release of the Application Server runs with one of the following:

  • Release 6.12 of SAS software
  • Release 6.09 Enhanced (TS455) of SAS software for MVS

  The machine on which you install the Application Server may or may not be the same machine as your Web server.

  For increased functionality, you can take advantage of other SAS software you have already installed, such as SAS/GRAPH, SAS/SHARE, SAS/ACCESS, or SAS/EIS software.

• The machine on which the Application Server is installed must have access to all of the data that is necessary to run the Dispatcher applications. This data can be in the form of local SAS data sets, third-party databases accessed through SAS/ACCESS software, or stored on remote servers accessed through SAS/SHARE software.

• If you plan to use the MDDB Report Viewer application that is provided with the Application Dispatcher, you must have Release 6.12 of SAS software or later, including SAS/EIS and SAS/MDDB software, installed on the Application Server machine.

• If you plan to use the Dispatcher Socket service, the machine on which you install the Application Server must have access to the Web server machine via a TCP/IP-based network.

Requirements for the Application Broker

• You must have the Web server already installed on the machine where you plan to install the Broker.

• You must have write access to the directory where your CGI scripts and programs are stored.

• You must have already installed at least one Application Server.

• The machine on which you install the Broker must have access via a TCP/IP-based network to the machine on which you installed the Application Server.

• You will also need access to a Web browser to test your installation.
