SAS Activity-Based Management
Any version of SAS Activity-Based Management, from version 6.0 and later, can be automatically updated to the most recent version of ABM. Here is the update process, briefly:
- Back up your existing ABM database.
- Uninstall your current ABM version. When you uninstall the current version's server-tier components, you must check the option Do not delete databases. This leaves your existing ABM data intact.
- When you install the server tier for the new version, the software examines the configuration to find the database that was used by the previous version of ABM, and a dialog box asks if you want to update it. Choose Yes.
These steps are explained in greater detail in the installation guide for ABM (available in the root directory of your ABM installation CD).
This process assumes that you are staying with the current version of your database. If, for example, you want to move from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005, you must delete your existing cubes in the 2000 database and rebuild them in the new 2005 database. This is due to changes Microsoft made, and this cannot be avoided. But all the ABM data will remain intact. If necessary, SAS Technical Support can help you with this process.
All ABM 6.0 and later products have the capability of importing Oros models with a wizard. The imported Oros models do not take advantage of the multidimensional modeling capabilities of ABM. We recommend redesigning the model for ABM if you have the resources.
