Operating Environment Information
Here are some issues that are specific to the operating environment. Discuss
these with your IT experts.
Issues that Arise from Changing or Upgrading the operating environment
The following issues can arise when you upgrade or change your operating environment.
- The new MIGRATE procedure can be used to migrate SAS libraries from
32-bit to a 64-bit architecture on UNIX.
However, it has not been thoroughly tested for a change
in operating environment families. Use the
Migration Calculator to
find your migration instructions. In cases where you must use
conversion procedures such as PROC COPY, you are directed to see
Moving and Accessing SAS Files in the SAS online documentation.
- A new or upgraded operating environment can require the following changes to setup and administration:
- inventory and replication of environment variables, which can be set with SAS or with
the operating environment; see the SAS Companion for your operating environment.
- new utilities, for example: text editor software,
batch job scheduling and executing, batch printing, or
a code management system (file versioning might be automatic under your source operating environment but not
under your target operating environment).
- an OS expert for debugging and performance tuning (see the topic about
tuning in the Execution stage).
- upgrade in scripting languages such as Perl, which can necessitate changes
to existing scripts.
- replication of any file structuring or directory structuring.
- other changes as a result of kernel differences.
- Consider any compatibility issues between
the SAS installation and those areas of your organization that
stay on the old operating environment, for example, a company intranet.
- Your operating environment provider should provide guidance when
you upgrade or change operating environment.
