Execution: Create Backups and Benchmarks
To execute a successful migration, start by creating
backups and benchmarks as a safety net.
- Step 1: Create an active or restorable backup image
- By backing up
your source installation before you modify any part of it, you
ensure that you can reestablish the installation in a disaster-recovery situation.
Planning for a worst-case scenario provides
peace of mind during migration.
- Step 2: Design a validation plan and create benchmarks
- Benchmarks are
"snapshots" of SAS behavior that are later used to validate
and tune the target installation. In order to create meaningful benchmarks of the source
installation, decide now how you plan to validate the target installation.
