Project Management
Network Diagrams : PROC NETDRAW
The NETDRAW procedure produces graphical, line-printer, and full-screen network diagrams. The procedure is designed to draw
activity networks, tree diagrams, and general cyclical networks. However, it is particularly suited to displaying large
complex project networks that have been scheduled. These networks can be displayed as time-scaled and zoned network
diagrams.
Input Data
-
Schedule and project network information contained in one of two possible data sets:
-
The Schedule data set defines activities, descriptions, and schedule
times.
-
The Network logic data set represents a general network.
-
The Annotate data set contains labeling information such as graphics and text that needs to be annotated
on the network diagram.
Output Data
-
The Network data set, which contains node and arc coordinates of the interactively modified
network.
Graphical Display Devices
-
Graphical by default
-
Full-screen devices
-
Graphics devices.
Full-Screen Interactive Features
-
Scroll over the full-screen network diagram.
-
Pick up and move nodes.
-
Zoom on sections of the network.
Graphical Features
-
Add titles, footnotes, and notes.
-
Specify colors and fonts.
-
Annotate networks.
-
Display networks across many pages or compress onto one page.
-
Draw time-scaled network diagrams.
-
Split networks into horizontal zones.
-
Display nonstandard precedence relationships.
-
Draw tree diagrams, which can be used to display work breakdown structures and organizational charts.
Special Processing Features
-
Move the nodes around on the screen (subject to maintaining the precedence order of the activities) and thus change the
layout of the network diagram.
-
Include multiple user-defined project and subproject codes.
-
Save macro status variable for easy system integration.
-
Control the number of pages used to create the network diagram.
Examples
Some examples of the different types of network diagrams that can be produced are illustrated below.
