What's New in Data Analysis

SAS/IML Workshop

SAS/IML Workshop is a graphical user interface and extension of SAS/IML software that enables you to explore data interactively using standard statistical graphics and tables. IML Workshop provides an integrated development environment for writing, debugging, and executing IML programs. IML Workshop also implements the IMLPlus programming language, which is an enhanced version of the IML programming language. IMLPlus provides new language features such as the ability to call SAS procedures and external C/Fortran/Java functions. IML Workshop requires a PC running the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Version 8

Version 8 of the SAS System brings major enhancements to the data analysis software. All output is now handled by the Output Delivery System, which enables you to control the display of results, to output tables and statistics to SAS data sets, and to produce results in a variety of formats including HTML.

SAS/STAT software provides updates to existing procedures and contains new procedures that take the software in new directions. The GENMOD procedure now provides LSMEANS and ESTIMATE statements, and its GEE facility provides the alternating logistic regression algorithm, produces Wald and score tests for model effects, and handles the ordinal response case. Additional exact tests have been added to several procedures, exact logistic regression has been added to the LOGISTIC procedure, and even the TTEST procedure has been updated.

New procedures provide tools for partial least squares analysis and spatial prediction. In addition to procedures for survey design and analysis, Version 8 also introduces procedures for nonparametric modeling and nonlinear mixed models.

SAS/INSIGHT software has been enhanced to include interactive contour and surface plots as well as advanced multivariate techniques including biplots and principal component rotation. SAS/IML software now includes robust regression techniques including Least Median of Squares (LMS), Least Trimmed Squares (LTS), and Minimum Volume Ellipsoid Estimation.

Analyst Application

The Analyst Application is a data analysis tool designed to provide easy access to basic statistical analyses. The production release of the Analyst Application is included in Version 8 for Windows 95, Windows NT, UNIX workstations, OpenVMS Alpha, OpenVMS VAX, and OS/2. This release contains numerous enhancements including improved data access and data management, a project-based results tree, and new statistical tasks for mixed models, repeated measurements, survival analysis, and multivariate techniques. A production release of the Analyst Application is also available for download as an add-on to Release 6.12 of the SAS System for Windows 3.1, Windows 95, and Windows NT. A beta release is available as an add-on to Release 6.12 for UNIX workstations.
