Introduction to iPad accessibility features for blind and low vision students

This full-day hands-on workshop introduces educators of the visually impaired to iPad accessibility features that help totally blind and low vision students succeed in the classroom and the 21st century knowledge economy. See the course outline for more details.

Prerequisites

This workshop is specifically designed for participants with little or no knowledge of the iPad. If possible, each participant should bring an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch that can be used during hands-on step-by-step activities. Loaner iPads are available upon request.

Objectives

  1. Participants will learn how to perform some of the basic tasks on an iPad including searching the web and taking notes.
  2. Participants will learn how to use the Voiceover screen reader on the iPad.
  3. Participants will learn how to use the low vision features of the iPad.
  4. Participants will learn how to pair an iPad with a Smart Board, ELMO, Mimeo, and other projection devices so low vision students can view class materials with the assistance of the low vision features of the iPad.
