SAS Programming Institute for High School Educators
High school teachers apply their new skills and explore activities in the SAS Programming Course. |
Join a growing network of teachers and school districts interested in providing students with an advantage in their college
and career aspirations. SAS, the leader in business analytics software, now offers a course in the SAS Programming language for High School.
Train the teacher program
To prepare teachers to teach one of the two SAS courses, SAS offers a five day intensive train-the-teacher program at our Cary, NC
headquarters. The training, instructional materials and software for classroom instruction are offered at no charge for teachers enrolled in the training.
The 2012 training takes place June 25-29 in Cary, NC. Applications and registrations must be received by June 1st to secure a place for the 2012 session.
Applicants will be expected to complete approximately 20 hours of self-paced e-learning before the actual training event.
Once back at your school, the SAS programming course is designed to be taught in a block schedule (90 days with 1½-hour sessions) or in a full
academic year, 180 days (45-minute sessions taught daily). SAS provides complete, pilot-tested curricula but encourages instructors to create instructional
projects and exercises on their own to share with a growing community of high school SAS teachers.
SAS offers internationally recognized
certification exams which correlate with the high school courses.
Dr. Jim Goodnight, (center) SAS CEO, congratulates teachers who completed the workshop in August 2008. |

SAS Programming 1 for High School
This course is the entry point for students to learn SAS programming and is a prerequisite for the second SAS programming course. Students will learn how
to plan and write SAS programs to solve common data analysis problems. Instruction provides practice running and debugging programs. The emphasis is placed
on reading input data, creating list and summary reports, defining new variables, executing code conditionally, reading raw data files and SAS data sets
and writing the results to SAS data sets.
SAS Programming 2 for High School
This course is for experienced SAS student programmers who will learn how to prepare data for analysis. The comparisons of manipulation techniques and
resource cost benefits are designed to help student programmers choose the most appropriate technique for their data situation. This course also teaches
students how to process SAS data using Structured Query Language (SQL) and how to use the components of the SAS macro facility to design, write, and debug
macro systems that are reusable and dynamic. Emphasis is placed on understanding how programs with macro code are processed.
