Problem Note 8314: SASHELP.VTABLE displays data set labels unexpectedly
The SASHELP.VTABLE (or the equivalent DICTIONARY.TABLES) displays
data set labels unexpectedly.
SASHELP.VTABLE displays information about all of the data sets in all
defined libraries for the current SAS session. The information
displayed includes data set labels. The SASHELP.VTABLE is created
by using PROC SQL.
In other parts of SAS, such as the SAS Explorer or when using PROC
DATASETS or PROC CONTENTS, the data set label is displayed only for
password-protected data sets (created with PW= or READ= options) when
the password is provided.
Currently there is no circumvention for the problem.
The problem has been fixed in 9.1.
A hotfix for SAS Release 8.2 is available. After applying the hotfix,
if a table is read-protected with a SAS password, most of its
information in SASHELP.VTABLE or DICTIONARY.TABLES will be set
to blank or missing in order to honor the password protection.
