Problem Note 7163: Columns Database not used when synchronizing MDDB metadata
If you rebuild your MDDB, such that you add or modify the current
analysis, class, or hierarchy information, you can update the metadata
in your repository by editing the MDDB table attribute of your MDDB in
the Metabase Window and selecting the "Synchronize" button. This will
cause the repository to be updated with the current MDDB information.
However, if you synchronize your MDDB, it will not apply any updates
that may have been made to variables in the Columns Database and you
would need to go into the Columns window for your table and enter the
updates.
The Columns Database in the Metabase facility allows you to define
column metadata for specified columns. This metadata will be applied to
like-named columns when new tables are registered into the repository,
where the columns in the new table are checked against the columns
database and, if a match is found on the column name, the column
metadata will be copied to the the new table registration. This allows
you to define metadata like column labels, formats and informats, as
well as metadata values like ANALYSIS, CATEGORY and SUMMARY so you do
not have to do it individually for each registered table's columns if
several tables share the same columns.
