If a function within %SYSFUNC requires character values and is placed on
a %DO loop, these characters are incorrectly returned as uppercase.

To achieve the intended output, use the %LOWCASE function as in the
following example.

   %macro loop ;
     %do i=%sysfunc(rank(%lowcase(a))) %to %sysfunc(rank(%lowcase(e)));
      %put i=&i ;
      %put dset%sysfunc(byte(&i)) ;
     %end;
   %mend loop;

   %loop
