Usage Note 6691: During SAS 8.2 installation, "Enter location of new setinit (license)"
dialog box might appear repeatedly
During the SAS Release 8.2 installation, you might be requested to enter
the location of an updated setinit file (license file). If you enter the
drive and directory of the new setinit.sss file and click Next, the
dialog box might reappear and request the directory again.
This might occur because the setinit file is not named correctly. For
SAS Release 8.2, the setinit (license) file has to be named setinit.sss.
Sometimes, the filename has a hidden extension of .txt appended to it
that prevents SAS from recognizing it.
To circumvent the problem, do the following:
- Open the setinit.sss file in Notepad.
- Click File > Save As and drill down to the desired directory.
Note: You can save the file in any directory.
- Type in the following for the filename:
"setinit.sss"
Note: Be sure to type the double quotation marks to prevent the .txt
extension from appending to the filename.
- Exit out of Notepad.
If the problem still persists, make sure that you only enter the drive
letter and subdirectory when requested for the license location. You
cannot enter the filename, setinit.sss, in this field.

For software releases that are not yet generally available, the Fixed
Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
During a SAS 8.2 installation, the install might not accept the license file and then, does not continue the installation after this point.
