Usage Note 51125: PDF output created with the ODS PDF statement does not open automatically with Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 10
Under normal circumstances, when you create PDF output using the ODS PDF statement, SAS® automatically opens the resulting PDF file. If you are running on a 32-bit Windows machine, the PDF file opens in the SAS Results Viewer window. If you are running on a 64-bit Windows machine, the PDF output opens in a separate Adobe window outside of SAS.
However, if you are running SAS on a 64-bit Windows machine with Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 10 installed, the resulting PDF output does not open automatically. Instead of the PDF output opening automatically, a small black "X" is displayed in the SAS Results Viewer window.
To circumvent the problem, from the SAS menu bar, select Tools ► Options ► Preferences. Click the Results tab.
On this tab, set the View results as they are generated: option to Internet Explorer. Click OK to return to the SAS windowing environment. Now when you create PDF output using the ODS PDF statement, the resulting PDF file is automatically displayed in an Adobe window outside of SAS.
