Installation Note 50411: Attempts to enable .NET Framework 3.5 on the Windows 8 operating system fail
On the Windows 8 operating system, when the SAS® Deployment Wizard attempts to install .NET Framework 3.5 during the Stage 1: System Requirements phase, a failure might occur.
Note: For a similar issue that occurs on Windows 8 Pro, Windows 8 Enterprise, and Windows 2012 Server systems, see SAS Note 48410: "Attempts to enable .NET Framework 3.5 in Windows 8 Pro, Windows 8 Enterprise, and Windows Server 2012 fail."
In some SAS Deployment Wizard dialog boxes, a red circle with a white X appears, as shown below:
In addition, the following error message appears in the sdw.log for the SAS Deployment Wizard:
And the following error message appears in the sdw.log for the SAS Deployment Wizard:

cmd.exe /C %WINDIR%\SysNative\dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /all /NoRestart /Quiet
To fix this issue during installation, follow these steps:
Navigate to the Microsoft download site and download and install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and any supporting .NET Framework releases and service packs needed.
Then, in the Install Failure dialog box that is presented by the SAS Deployment Wizard, click the Retry button to continue with the installation.
Note: Microsoft introduced Windows 8 for the consumer market. As such, it does not include the Group Policy functionality, so the fix in SAS Note 48410 does not work on this system.
