Problem Note 46571: For SASĀ® 9.3 and later, the hot fix HOTFIX7 or the PROMOTE job might fail and return the message "Missing deployment registry update data file..."
When you are applying a hot fix, the HOTFIX7 or PROMOTE job might fail. These jobs fail for various reasons, such as there not being enough space in /tmp. Whatever the reason for the job's failure, after you correct that cause and then try to rerun the job, the job might fail again with a new error similar to the following:
Missing deployment registry update data file SASHOME directory/InstallMisc/DepRegUpdateData.xml
Depending on when you received your order for SAS 9.3 or later, this functionality might be in either the HOTFIX7 job or the PROMOTE job.
Workaround
To work around this issue, create the file
SASHOME directory/InstallMisc/DepRegUpdateData.xml and include this content:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<deploymentRegistry> </deploymentRegistry>
Note that this file must be created in ASCII.
Before You Rerun the Failing Job
Here are some precautions that you should take before rerunning the failing job:
- To prevent possible permanent damage to your registry.xml file, make a copy of it before you rerun the job.
- It might also be necessary to use the -alwaysoverwrite option along with any other options that are being used with sashf.rexx or sasdm.rexx. The -alwaysoverwrite option forces the hot fix to be installed if the deployment registry was already updated during the failed attempt.

For software releases that are not yet generally available, the Fixed
Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
If the SAS 9.3 or later HOTFIX7 or PROMOTE job fails, after you fix the cause of the failure, the job cannot be rerun because a file has been deleted.
