Installation Note 45579: The error "Encryption algorithm AES failed to initialize" might occur during installation
When you run the SAS® Deployment Wizard for a SAS installation, you might be presented with the following prompt:
Configure SAS servers to use the FIPS (US Federal Information Processing Standards) certified encryption algorithm.
If you select the FIPS option and SAS/SECURE® is not included in the installation, the following error occurs:
ERROR: Encryption algorithm AES failed to initialize
The above option should be checked only if you intend to use FIPS encryption. If you do not select the option, SAS Proprietary encryption is used. AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) is selected by default.
