Usage Note 45010: SAS® Enterprise Miner(tm) 6 java client versions do not start when expected
When you select the following path, SAS Enterprise Miner should start: Start ► Programs ► SAS ► Analytics ► Enterprise Miner Client 6.x. However, SAS Enterprise Miner does not start.
The problem occurs when the Java Runtime Environment that was installed when SAS Enterprise Miner was installed becomes corrupted. Corruption can occur if a later version of the Java Runtime Environment is installed after SAS Enterprise Miner is installed.
You can check which Java Runtime Environment SAS is using to confirm that it is still valid by following these steps:
From a file explorer window, go to C:\Program Files\SAS and view the file, sassw.config. That
file contains a JREHOME variable.
For example: JREHOME=C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_24\bin\java.exe
Start a DOS command window, Start ► Run ► cmd ► enter and
navigate via cd commands to that location.
For example: cd "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_24\bin\java.exe"
- Type java -version and confirm that you get the correct response.
If there are no errors when running the java -version command, then turn on SAS Enterprise Miner Client logging. Follow these steps:
- Go to a file explorer window and navigate to
C:\SAS\Config dir\Lev1\AnalyticsPlatform\apps\EnterpriseMiner\bin.
- Make a backup of the em.ini file
Edit the em.ini file to change the applogloc= to contain a value to which you
have Write permissions.
For example: applogloc=c:\temp\em.log
- Try Start ► Programs ► SAS ► Analytics ► Enterprise Miner Client
6.x.
When SAS Enterprise Miner does not start, go to the log generated and look for errors.
If there are any java errors, then you need to do either of the following items:
- Install a new version of the Java Runtime Environment from the SAS 9.2 Knowledge Base
Third-Party Software Requirements for Use with SAS® Software and Applications
Web page. After you install a new Java Runtime Environment, modify the
sassw.config file to have a new value for the JREHOME=
field.
- Change the JREHOME= field in the sassw.config file to point
to the later version of Java Runtime Environment that was installed on your machine.
Once the sassw.config contains a JREHOME value that points to a working Java Runtime Environment version, SAS Enterprise Miner should start correctly.
If you there are no errors in the em.log file, then contact SAS Technical Support to help resolve your problem.
