Problem Note 44849: File association error might appear when sending results from SAS® Enterprise Guide® to a Microsoft Office product
If you attempt to send results from SAS Enterprise Guide to Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, or Microsoft PowerPoint, you might receive a message similar to the following:
The file associated with this element could not be found.
This message might appear when you select Send To to send your SAS Report results to one of the Microsoft Office clients. Despite this message, you should be able to run tasks inside of the client using the SAS Add-In.
The message might be caused by SAS Enterprise Guide looking for a particular version of the assemblies that are not installed into the Global Assembly Cache (GAC). To fix this problem, reinstall the assembly files (.dll) into the GAC.
The files that need to be reinstalled can be one of the following, depending on the client:
Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.dll
Microsoft.Office.Interop.Powerpoint.dll
Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.dll
You should only need to reinstall the assemblies for the client that is returning the message. Here are the instructions for reinstalling the assembly:
- In a Windows Explorer window, navigate to the installation directory of the SAS Add-In. The default location is
c:\Program Files\SAS\Add-InForMicrosoftOffice\4.3\
.
- Scroll through the files until you find the assembly that you want to reinstall.
- In a separate Windows Explorer window, navigate to the location of the GAC. If you are not familiar with this location, you can type
%windir%\Assembly
in the address bar of the Windows Explorer window to navigate to the proper location on your machine.
- Drag the associated .dll file from the Add-In installation folder and drop it into the GAC location. It should install automatically when you drop the file.
- Restart SAS Enterprise Guide and select the Send To option again.
