If you run SAS^® Enterprise Miner™ using the VALIDVARNAME=ANY option, then SAS Enterprise Miner should allow your variable names to contain Japanese characters. However, if a variable name contains a single-byte (half-width) katakana character, then SAS Enterprise Miner produces an error:

The only workaround is to remove the single-byte katakana characters from the variable names.
