Problem Note 43776: SAS® Management Console does not launch on RHEL 6
When you attempt to launch SAS® Management Console on
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6, only the outline of the window
is displayed.
The problem is caused by an out-of-memory error in Java.
To circumvent, follow these instructions:
- Download the 6u14 Java Runtime Environment from this site:
https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/ViewProductDetail-Start?ProductRef=jre-6u14-oth-JPR@CDS-CDS_Developer
For the Platform, select Linux, not Linux x64.
Once installed, note the location of the newly installed version of Java (for example, /usr/java/jre1.6.0_14/bin/java).
- Install the following 32- and 64-bit libraries using the yum
command:
yum install libXtst.i686
Typically, the 64-bit library is already installed.
You must install the 32-bit library as well.
- Make a backup copy of the sasmc.ini file in the SASManagementConsole/9.2 directory.
Change the following line in the file:
launchercmd=
to
launchercmd=/usr/java/jre1.6.0_14/bin/java
This path will depend on the location of your installation,
but it should be either the same or very similar.
- Launch SAS Management Console.
