Usage Note 4956: During a setinit update, you might receive this error message: "Error:
Update lock is not available for SASHELP.CORE.CATALOG, lock held by
another process"
During a setinit update, you might receive this error message:
Error: Update lock is not available for SASHELP.CORE.CATALOG,
lock held by another process.
Error: The site validation data cannot be updated. This is
most likely due to the fact that the SASHELP catalog is not
available in write mode, and/or that the SETINIT option has
not been specified when using the SAS COMMAND.
ERROR: Difficulty reading the site validation data.
To circumvent this problem:
* For most Windows operating systems
1. Open Windows Explorer.
2. Navigate to the !sasroot directory.
3. Drill down to core\sashelp.
4. Locate the core.sas7bcat file.
5. Right-click on this file.
6. From the menu select Properties.
7. Under the General tab, make sure that Archive check box is
the only one selected. If it is not, select it, and then click Apply.
For SAS 8.2 check and make sure that the setinit file is called
setinit.sss. To verify this, take the following steps:
1. Click on Start>Run.
2. Type cmd and press Enter, this will bring up a command prompt.
Type cd\ to get a c:\> Prompt.
3. CD (change directory to your setinit file location). For Example:
cd c:\Program Files\SAS Institute\SAS\V8\core\sasinst and press
Enter.
4. Type dir setinit.* to list the setinit files in this directory. If
you see setinit.sss, make sure that there is not a .txt appended
to the end. For Example: setinit.sss.txt
5. If the setinit.sss file does appear as setinit.sss.txt rename it to
setinit.sss. Type the following rename setinit.sss.txt setinit.sss
6. Do another dir setinit.* to verify the change.
* For Windows 2000 servers
Attributes are different: the General tab has only Read-Only and Hidden.
Make sure that these are not checked.
Once the attributes are set correctly, try updating your setinit again.
If you continue to have problems applying the setinit, find out if you
are the administrator of your machine. If not, ask the administrator to
log in and try updating the setinit.
This might also be due to your anti-virus software. Disable it
and try the update again.
