Problem Note 4291: Zap to correct performance degradation on zSeries machines
SAS and IBM have jointly investigated a reported problem with SAS
software running slower than expected on the new zSeries of machines.
The investigation revealed a problem attributed to the separation of
the instruction and data cache into separate caches on the zSeries
machine. The previous 9672 architecture used a single cache for both
data and instructions. At issue is the fact that storing data near
the instructions being executed can cause performance degradation.
The zaps Z8004291 and Z8014291 correct this problem for Version 8
TSLEVEL M0, and Release 8.1 TSLEVEL 1M0 of the SAS System, respectively.
Zaps may be applied prior to moving to new zSeries machines.
This problem is corrected in Release 8.2 TS2M0 of the SAS System.
Refer to SAS Note V6-SYS.SYS-G952 for a description of this problem
and associated fix information for Release 6.09E of the SAS System.
