This Installation Note describes the use of the SAS® 9.2 Depot Subsetting Utility.
You can find instructions for subsetting a SAS® 9.3 order in
Chapter 3 of the
SAS® Deployment Wizard and SAS® Deployment
Manager 9.3: User's Guide.
The SAS® 9.2 Depot Subsetting Utility allows you to create a subsetted depot of the SAS clients or SAS Foundation products you select from your master depot. Because the subsetted depot contains only installation files required to support the deployment of the products you choose, it will be smaller in size than your master depot, with fewer directories in its products directory.
In order to create a subsetted depot, some preparation is required. Specifically, you will need to be able to verify the following:
One of the inputs you will supply to the subsetting depot utility is a list of operating systems to include. If the depot will contain SAS Foundation, all operating systems you list must exist in one order, and that order must contain licenses for each operating system you list. SAS-supported operating systems and their corresponding system codes are shown below.
Operating System | Code | |
---|---|---|
Microsoft Windows Workstation 32-bit | win | |
Microsoft Windows Server for x64* | wx6 | |
Microsoft Windows Server for Itanium-based Systems | w64 | |
64-bit Enabled AIX | r64 | |
64-bit Enabled Solaris | s64 | |
Solaris for X64 | sax | |
HP-UX IPF | h6i | |
64-bit Enabled HP-UX | h64 | |
Linux for Intel Architecture | lnx | |
Linux for X64 | lax | |
*When creating a 64-bit Windows depot (wx6) you must also include the 32-bit Windows operating system (win). |
To include an operating system, use the -s option on the launch command. For example, specify
-s win wx6 to create a single subsetted depot that contains files necessary to install on both 32-bit Windows (win) and 64-bit Windows (wx6)
operating systems.
The amount of storage required for the subsetted (target) depot depends on which products and how many operating systems you include. Typical depot sizes for Foundation-only depots will range from 3.1G (Base only) to 7.5G. Depots that contain both SAS Clients and Foundation typically range from 4G to 15G, depending on the products and the number of operating systems included. For depots that contain only SAS Clients, the size can be calculated by adding 1.4G to the sum of the space required by each client product you will include. Use the sizes given in the table shown below:
SAS Client | Software Code |
Approximate Depot Size |
---|---|---|
SAS® Enterprise Guide | eguide | 310M |
SAS® Integration Technologies Client | itclient | 30M |
SAS® Enterprise Miner Clients
SAS® Enterprise Miner Java Client SAS® Enterprise Miner Thin Client Configuration SAS® Enterprise Miner Plug-in for SASMC |
dmineclient dminethincfg dminesmc |
234M (226M) (1M) (7M) |
SAS® Data Integration Studio | databuilder | 370M |
SAS® Forecast Server Clients
SAS® Forecast Studio SAS® Forecast Server Plug-in for SASMC |
forcaststdo forecastsmc |
375M
(135M) (240M) |
SAS® Information Map Studio | mapcenter | 220M |
SAS® Management Console | mgmtconsole | 240M |
SAS® Personal Login Manager | mrloginmgr | 210M |
SAS® Add-in for Microsoft® Office | msofficeint | 285M** |
SAS® OLAP Cube Studio | olapserver | 285M |
SAS® Text Miner Java Client | tmclient | 9M*** |
SAS® Remote Browser Server | rbrowser | 8M** |
**for each OS ***does not include additional languages |
As an example, if your organization licenses SAS Enterprise BI Server and SAS Enterprise Guide, the size of your clients depot will be approximately 2.67G, or (1.4G + 1.27G). The corresponding software codes for Enterprise BI Server clients plus Enterprise Guide would be as follows:
eguide itclient (recommended with SAS Enterprise Guide) mapcenter mgmtconsole msofficeint mrloginmgr (recommended) olapserver |
Once you have completed the preparatory tasks (above) and have identified the SAS Clients and their corresponding software codes, complete the following steps to create the subsetted clients depot:
Modify the text file that most accurately represents the type of depot you are trying to create: SAS Foundation Only (SASDepotSubset-Foundation.txt), SAS Client Only (SASDepotSubset-Client.txt) or both (SASDepotSubset-All.txt). For convenience, the most common products are included in the text files. Uncomment any products that are to be included in your order. These products should exist in your order, but the utility will list products included in the text file that do not exist in the master depot.
For example, if you ordered SAS Enterprise Miner and you want to create a subsetted depot for it, choose with the SASDepotSubset-Client.txt file and uncomment the following products:
Once the text file has been created, execute the utility by calling SASDepotSubset.sh and supplying the following parameters:
For example:
/utility/location/SASDepotSubset.sh -o 012345 -i /master/depot/directory -d /subset/depot/directory -p /utility/location/SASDepotSubset.txt -s win wx6 -v
Review the console and the log for errors or warnings. The log file matching the name of the text file will be stored in the root directory of the subsetted depot.
Move the subsetted depot to a Windows directory or file share[†]. Refer to Installation Note 38258: Best practices for working with SAS® Software depots in UNIX environments for best practices.
Install SAS Foundation and/or SAS Clients by executing setup.exe in the subsetted depot's root directory, now on Windows.
If you experience problems, open a track with SAS Technical Support and send your text and log files.
[†] If the depot will be burned to DVD(s), then moving the depot to Windows is not required.
