Installation Note 36603: PDSMAN from Computer Associates can prevent SASĀ® from initalizing during installation
PDSMAN, a product from Computer Associates, can cause the following error when you are installing or invoking SAS:
ERROR: sasxkrin kernel resource initialization failed
Unable to initialize the sas kernel
The error occurs because PDSMAN updates a field in the SASMSG PDS directory entries' SPF statistics that SAS depends on.
The following PDSMAN settings will cause this error:
$UPDATE CONTROL=Y EBDRESET=Y
To avoid this incompatibility, ensure the following options are set for PDSMAN as specified here:
- The $UPDATE rule does not match the SASMSG data sets in your SAS installation, or it specifically codes CONTROL=N and EBDRESET=N.
- The $ACCESS rule does not match the SASMSG data sets in your SAS installation, or it specifies REF=N.
- The SASMSG data sets in your SAS installation are not processed by the PDSMAN Backup System (PDSM03), PDSM02, PDSM12 or the HOLD command of PDSM19.
If PDSMAN does copy and alter these data sets, you must restore from the original SAS data sets after the PDSMAN rules have been changed as directed above.
