Overview

SAS Web Report Studio enables you to create dynamically populated prompted filters for categories in relational SAS Information Maps. These filters enable the report user to query the data source—at report run time—for a list of filter values from which to choose.

This sample shows you how to use SAS^® Information Map Studio to enable a category for dynamic value generation, and how to use SAS Web Report Studio to create a dynamically populated prompted filter for that category. As the input table for the information map, this sample uses the SHOES table, which is one of the sample tables included with SAS.

Note: There are there are four types of category data items: alphanumeric, date (MM/DD/YYYY), timestamp (MM/DD/YYY HH:mm:ss), and time (HS:mm.ss). This sample applies only to alphanumeric categories.

Enable a Category for Dynamic Value Generation

1. In SAS Information Map Studio, right-click on the name of a category data item in a relational information map, and then select Properties. This sample uses the category named Product.
2. Click the Permissions/Value Generation tab.
3. Select Dynamically generate a list that contains all of the data item's values, and then click OK.



4. Save the information map.

Create the Dynamically Prompted Filter

1. In SAS Web Report Studio, open an existing report that already includes the information map with the enabled category, or create a new report using the information map.
2. In the Edit Report view, click the Create new filter button next to the category name to open the Create New Filter dialog box. In this sample, Product is enabled for dynamic value generation.



3. Enter a name for the filter. This sample uses Prompted Product Filter.
4. For the operator, select Equal to.
5. From the Specify values by drop-down list, select Prompting users to select values from a list.
6. In the Message for user text box, enter instructions for the user.
7. From the Create user's list by drop-down list, select Allowing users to query for values.
8. Enter a default value, which is used if the user's query for values does not return any values. In this sample, Sandal is the default. Here is what the filter looks like.

Use the Filter in SAS Web Report Studio

1. Click View Report to open the prompt window.



2. Click Get Values to populate the Available values list.

Notes

• Reset to defaults does not clear the Available values list. The Available values list remains populated as long as the user is working with the report. If the user logs off or views another report, then the Available values list reverts to blank.
• If the report has more than one dynamically populated prompted filter, the user can click Get Values for All Prompts to populate all of the Available values lists.
• The list of values is always in alphabetical order.
