The array exists only for the duration of the current DATA step. The array-name distinguishes it from any other arrays in the same DATA step; it is not a variable. A multidimensional array is a more complex grouping of variables that, when processed, results in output that could have two or more dimensions, such as columns and rows. A SAS data library is a collection of one or more SAS files that are recognized by SAS and that are referenced and stored as a unit. Each file is a member of the library. The logical concept of a SAS data library remains constant, regardless of the operating environment. In any operating environment where SAS can be installed, the structure for organizing, locating, and managing SAS files is the same. At the operating environment level, however, a SAS data library has different physical implementations. Most SAS data libraries implement the storage of files in a manner similar to the way the operating environment stores and accesses files. For instance, in directory-based operating environments, a SAS data library is a group of SAS files that are stored in the same directory and accessed by the same engine. Other files can be stored in the directory, but only the files with file extensions that are assigned by SAS are recognized as part of the SAS data library. APERThe major influence in my pursuit of a career in medicine is my aspiration to make a difference in people's lives when they in a vulnerable position. The sense of satisfaction I get from helping someone that is in need is unmatched by anything in the world. I feel that as a doctor, the sense of satisfaction would be even greater because I would be the one making the decisions on the treatments administered to heal the patient, versus carrying out the orders given by a doctor, which is what I do in my position now.I believe that my yearning to help and make a difference comes from my own near death experience. I was in a car accident at the beginning of my junior year in high school and I nearly lost my life in that accident. During the course of my stay in the hospital I encountered a doctor by the name of Sherri Apple. She was a world-renowned neurosurgeon before passing away a few years ago. While I was in the ICU after having a craniotomy, performed by Dr. Apple, she came to visit me daily and encouraged me to get well and presented herself as more of a friend than any other doctor I had before. It was during the time that her and I shared that really inspired me to become a doctor. I hope that I can have an influence on someone else similar to the impact that she had on me throughout my time of need. She would come and talk about anything other than medicine with me, just as a caring friend would. She befriended me and we remained close friends even after my recovery was complete and I was discharged from the hospital. Upon her sudden passing away I made a pact to myself and to her that I would not give up and I would do whatever necessary to become a doctor and fulfill my lifelong dream. I have wanted to be a doctor since I was in elementary school and during my youth I wasn?t exactly sure why I had chosen that path, but as I grew older and gained more experience in life and academics my dream became clearer and clearer. It is through the experiences and the knowledge that I have gained that motivate me to strive to be all that I can be. I am aware that I may not have the most impressive GPA or MCAT scores out of all the candidates, but those scores and other numbers are not valid when it comes to measuring a persons will, determination, desire to accomplish a goal that they have set and their ability to communicate with others. I will do everything in my power to achieve my goal, and I will not give up until I have attained it. I have been able to overcome many obstacles in my life through hard work, dedication, and diligence. In my opinion overcoming obstacles to achieve a goal exemplifies ones character and attitude toward life and their career. These qualities I believe are essential to providing excellent health care and showing compassion to people while they are in need. I believe without the least amount of doubt, that I have the all skills, abilities, desire, and passion required to become an excellent doctor.
