Usage Note 21126: SASĀ® Financial Management queries take a long time to complete
Beginning with SAS Financial Management 4.3, ODCS/Calculation Clustering can be used to reduce the time multiple queries need to complete.
SAS Financial Management Calculation Clustering, (also known as ODCS
Clustering, Clustered Query Processors, or QPs), is an optional
configuration that is designed to reduce the wait time for processing
multiple SAS Financial Management queries in a multi-user environment.
With Calculation Clustering, queries are automatically routed to various
machines where Calculation Clustering has been enabled. Clustering is
most effective in situations where there are many users with small
requests. It does not speed up single computationally expensive queries.
Note that SAS Financial Management Calculation Clustering has no
relationship to WebLogic clusters.
SAS Financial Management Calculation Clustering allows an implementation
to easily spread the burden of processing multiple queries to other
hosts, since all that is needed is additional machines that can run the
Java Virtual Machine. This functionality is documented in Chapter 6 of
the
SAS Solutions Services 1.4 System Administration Guide.
SAS Financial Management Calculation Clustering can help most when there
are large volumes or queries that require a moderate amount of time to
process. The Calculation Cluster will help alleviate bottlenecks
that might occur as multiple query requests are submitted to the server.
SAS Financial Management Calculation Clustering cannot help when the
required cube space to be queried exceeds 2.147 billion crossings. For
example, if you require that the entire cube contents be extracted at
once, then Calculation Clustering will not help split the query.
