When you start SAS OnDemand for Academics software, it
attempts to make a connection to the SAS Cloud by default. If you choose not to
connect at start up, then SAS OnDemand for Academics attempts to connect
to the SAS Cloud the first time you request to process a job.
When you attempt to connect to the SAS Cloud, a dialog box appears with the following message:
Connecting to sas92cloud.sas.com ...
.
If the connection is successful, you are prompted in another dialog box to enter your SAS OnDemand for Academics user ID and password.
If the attempt to connect to the SAS Cloud is not successful, the first dialog box (with the message Connecting to sas92cloud.sas.com...) is the only one that appears. If this occurs, first verify that you have a working Internet connection. To do this, open a browser and make sure you can connect to an external Web site, for example, www.sas.com.
Next, verify that you have the ability to connect to the SAS Cloud with the appropriate port by submitting the TELNET statements that follow below. Note: Security
measures and firewalls at some universities can prevent the connection to the ports used by the SAS OnDemand for Academics software.
If you are running the Windows Vista operating system, follow these steps to set up the TELNET statements:
- Navigate to the Control Panel and select Programs and Features ► Turn Windows Features On or Off.
- Find a row called Telnet Client and select it.
- Click OK.
- Display a command prompt by selecting Start ► Run. In the Run dialog box, type command and click OK to submit it.
- Submit the following statements from the command prompt that appears:
telnet sas92cloud.sas.com 18561
telnet sas92cloud.sas.com 18591
If these statements each establish a connection, then the port is not the issue. If either of the TELNET statements fails, then either your university connection or your Internet connection is blocking a required port. You either must set your firewall so that this port is usable or contact your IT administrator for assistance.
If you have a working Internet connection and ports 18561 and 18591 are available for use, then the SAS® server might be down temporarily, or it might be down as a result of scheduled maintenance time. In this case, try to connect to the SAS Cloud at a later time.
