Problem Note 20035: The RELEASE procedure can damage a currently assigned SASĀ® data library,
resulting in an I/O error or U315 abnormal ending message
A direct-access bound library (RECFM=FS) that is currently assigned by
SAS might be damaged and suffer permanent data loss if you run PROC
RELEASE against it and you have created, replaced, or extended a member
in that library since it was assigned. Once the library is damaged, you
might receive the following I/O error (or a U315 abnormal ending
message) if you attempt to process data from the damaged portion of the
library in the current or a subsequent SAS session:
ERROR: Physical I/O error on SAS data library xxxxx.xxxxx.xxxxx on
volume xxxxxx
