Usage Note 19227: NOWARN option for PROC APPEND in SAS® 9.2
A NOWARN option has been added for PROC APPEND in SAS 9.2 that will prevent a warning from occurring when used with the FORCE option.
When a variable exists on the BASE=data set, but does not exist on the DATA=data set, you must use the FORCE option to cause the append to take place. A warning message is generated and written to the SAS Log when this occurs. A warning message is also generated when a variable exists on the DATA= data set but does not exist on the BASE=data set.
These warnings will resemble the following:
WARNING: Variable y was not found on BASE file. The variable will not
be added to the BASE file.
or
WARNING: Variable y was not found on DATA file.
CAUTION: This will not have any affect on other warnings that PROC APPEND
produces.
Note: If you are using PROC DATASETS, there is also a NOWARN option that
works in the same way when the FORCE option is specified on the APPEND statement.
Select the Hot Fix tab in this note to access the hot fix for this issue that will allow this functionality in SAS 9.1.3 SP4.
