Problem Note 17255: PROC MIXED can produce incorrect results for CONTRAST or ESTIMATE
statement involving levels of random effects
The results of CONTRAST and ESTIMATE statements in PROC MIXED will be
incorrect if the following conditions are met:
- there is no overall subject in the analysis (the DIMENSIONS table
shows there is 1 subject in your analysis)
- one or more RANDOM statement(s) in the model have a SUBJECT= option
- there are coefficients for the random effects in an ESTIMATE or
CONTRAST statement
All three conditions must be met for the results of the CONTRAST or
ESTIMATE statement to be incorrect.
To circumvent the problem, rewrite your RANDOM statements so that the
first two conditions are not met. For example, rewrite your RANDOM
statements so they do not involve SUBJECT= effects.
