Problem Note 17159: SAS® Add-In for Microsoft Office cannot read Excel data stored as metadata
When you have stored Microsoft Excel data as a library in the SAS
Management Console and use that data to run a task in the Add-In for
Microsoft Office (AMO) an error messages appear:
An error occurred initializing the "<task>" task.
where <task> is the task that you have selected in AMO.
When you select the Details button, this message appears:
System Exception: 'Sheet1$' is not a valid SAS data set name. A
valid SAS dataset name must begin with an alphabetic or underscore
character, followed by any combination of alphabetic, numeric, and
underscore characters. The total number of characters cannot exceed
32.
The problem occurs because the tables that are imported into the
metadata contain a $ at the end of the table name and AMO handles them
incorrectly.
To circumvent the issue, open the Excel file directly into the AMO
and use it.
