Usage Note 16969: Troubleshooting steps for SAS BI server services that stop working
If your SAS servers are running and then they stop working without
intervention, try the following troubleshooting steps:
1. Reboot your system and re-try your original steps.
2. Click on Start>Settings>Control Panel>Administrative
Tools>Services.
3. Locate the SAS metadata server and set the startup type to
disabled.
4. Shut down and reboot your PC.
5. Remove the SAS metadata server service by performing the
following:
a. Click on Start>Run and type cmd to open a command prompt.
b. Change to appropriate directory.
Note: To do this type cd\, select Enter, and type cd and the
directory name (cd stands for change directory). For example:
cd C:\SAS\<configdir>\Lev1\SASMain\MetadataServer>
c. Then type in the appropriate start .bat file with a -remove at
the end. For example:
cd C:\SAS\<configdir>\Lev1\SASMain\MetadataServer>
MetadataServer.bat -remove
6. Install the SAS metadata server service again by performing the
following:
a. Click on Start>Run and type cmd to open a command prompt.
b. Change to appropriate directory.
Note: To do this type cd\, select Enter, and type cd and the
directory name (cd stands for change directory). For example:
cd C:\SAS\<configdir>\Lev1\SASMain\MetadataServer>
c. Then type in the appropriate start .bat file with a -install at
the end. For example:
cd C:\SAS\<configdir>\Lev1\SASMain\MetadataServer>
MetadataServer.bat -install
7. Click On Start>Settings>Control Panel>Administrative
Tools>Services.
8. Locate the SAS metadata server and set the startup type to
automatic.
9. Start the SAS metadata server from services.
10. Start the other SAS services, if needed, for instance the SAS
Object Spawner.
This list below contains the default directory locations for the other
SAS service .bat files:
For the SAS Object Spawner:
C:\SAS\<configdir>\Lev1\SASMain\ObjectSpawner ObjectSpawner.bat
For the SAS OLAP Server:
C:\SAS\<configdir>\Lev1\SASMain\OLAPServer OLAPServer.bat
For the SAS Share Server:
C:\SAS\<configdir>\Lev1\SASMain\ShareServer ShareServer.bat
For the SAS Connect Server:
C:\SAS\<configdir>\Lev1\SASMain\ConnectServer ConnectServer.bat
