Usage Note 15722: Stored compiled macros are opened for read only access
In SAS 9.1.3 Service Pack 2 or higher, the store compiled macro catalog
is initially opened for read-only access. When a session first attempts
to execute a stored-compiled macro, the library is opened with no lock and
remains in that state until the session either ends or attempts to add or
update a macro are made.
When a session adds or updates a macro in a stored-compiled macro library,
the library is opened with a write lock and remains in that state until the
session ends or the SASMSTORE=option is changed AND an attempt is made to
execute or add/update a macro from the new library.
In previous releases, pointing SASMSTORE to a catalog with read only
attributes set on the operating system resulted in the following
warning.
WARNING: The maclib.SASMACR catalog is opened for read only.
Due to the change described above, the warning message no longer
occurs.
