Usage Note 14837: When installing SAS Learning Edition 4.1, Microsoft Runtime Components
error messages
When you try to install SAS Learning Edition 4.1, this message might
appear:
SAS System Setup has detected this system does not meet the minimum
requirement for the SAS System. To update the system requirement
run the System Requirements Wizard.
When you try to run the System Requirements Wizard, this message might
appear:
System Component will be updated on your system.
In a follow-up window, one of the following appears:
- Microsoft Runtime Components 7.0
- Microsoft Runtime Components 7.1
When you click Next, the follow-up window indicates one of the following:
- Component Microsoft Runtime Components 7.0 could not be updated on your system.
- Component Microsoft Runtime Components 7.1 could not be updated on your system.
Followed by:
SAS Learning Edition 4.1 cannot be installed until the minimum system
requirement are met.
When you run the System Requirements Wizard for SAS Learning
Edition 4.1, the Microsoft Runtime Components might not get updated if
the existing run-time dll attributes are set to read-only. This
read-only status can lead to an installation loop where the System Requirements Wizard
completes, but the SAS System installation cannot proceed due to the
failure to meet minimum requirements.
The files most likely to be affected are as follows:
atl70.dll
atl71.dll
gdiplus.dll
mfc70.dll
mfc71.dll
mfc70u.dll
mfc71u.dll
msvci70.dll
msvcp70.dll
msvcp71.dll
msvcr70.dll
msvcr71.dll
The workaround is to remove the read-only attribute from these files
and run the System Requirements Wizard:
- Right-click each file.
- Select Properties.
- Under Attributes deselect Read only.
- Select OK.
