Problem Note 13687: Registration of SAS data set (.sas7bdat) in SAS 9 does not override
SAS 8 Windows registry settings, causing "browse" action in SAS
When you install SAS 9.1.x, the registration of the SAS file (also
known as a data set) in the Windows registry is assigned an action
of "Browse." This setting is different than past releases which
is "Open in update mode." This Open setting causes the modification date
of the SAS file to change.
This change in registry action is evident when you double-click on a SAS
data set. The Windows action associated with a double-click is "Open in
update mode." Therefore, if you have SAS 9.1.x and SAS 8, 8.1,or 8.2
installed on your system, the SAS data set opens in your SAS 8 software.
If you want SAS 8 data sets on your machine where SAS 9.1.x is also
installed, work through these steps:
1. Open your Windows Explorer.
2. Select Tools>FolderOptions.
3. Click on the File types tab
4. Scroll down until you see the SAS7BDAT registered file type.
5. Click on the Advanced button.
6. Select "Open with SAS 9.1."
7. Click on the "Set default" button.
8. Click on OK and OK.
