If you use the WHERE EXPRESSION window within the VIEWTABLE window and
chose "<Lookup distinct values>" to build a WHERE clause on a column
with several thousand distinct values, it may take more than a minute to
subsequently close the VIEWTABLE window.

There are 2 possible circumventions for this performance problem:

   1. within the WHERE EXPRESSION window, use <enter Constant value>
      rather than <Lookup distinct values> to define the value upon
      which to create the subset

   2. avoid the WHERE window altogether and issue the WHERE command.
