Problem Note 13582: Report performance is slow when using a SAS® Information Map containing an
OLAP category
Report performance is slow when using an information map that contains an
OLAP category. The performance problem can occur in SAS® Web Report Studio, SAS®Web Report
Viewer, and Visual Data Explorer.
An OLAP category might defined as a subset of members. For example, the following category identifies only the last month:
{[Time].[Year-Qtr-Month].[All
Year-Qtr-Month].lastchild.lastchild.lastchild}
|
This example returns a specific country.
{[Geography].[North America].[United States]}

Here are some indicators of a performance problem that is related to using OLAP categories:
- A report takes several minutes to display.
- Multiple connections are made to the SAS® OLAP server. The number of connections might be in the hundreds as reported in the SAS OLAP Server log.
- Multiple queries are submitted to the SAS OLAP server. Again, the number of queries might be in the hundreds as reported in the ARM log.
