Problem Note 11148: PROC APPEND Abends with S0C4, U2096, Segmentation Violation, Stack
Overflow or Read/Write Access Violations in Task Append
When running PROC APPEND an illegal observation may be written due to a
problem in the SAS I/O routines. If this occurs, the integrity of the
data set is compromised due to incorrect internal space calculations
occurring resulting in observations being written to inaccurate data set
pages.
Symptoms of this problem are abends or session hangs, depending on what
may have been overlaid due to observations being written to the wrong
data set pages.
In the OS/390 environment you may get a S0C4 or a U2096.
In the Unix you may get a Segmentation Violation In Task ( APPEND ].
In the VMS environment you may get a ERROR: stack overflow,
PC=0000000000B6E614, PS=0000001B
In the PC environment you may get ERROR: Read Access Violation In
Task ( APPEND ] Exception occurred at (03191019) Task Traceback or you
may get ERROR: Write Access Violation In Task ( APPEND ] Exception
occurred at (621A10BB)
