Usage Note 10082: Exploitation of the IBM z/OS Resolver for z/OS 1.2 and later
To exploit the IBM z/OS Resolver available for z/OS 1.2 and later,
follow the appropriate steps based on the release of SAS.
SAS 9.1 and later:
SAS 7.50 Transient library is shipped with these releases so
only the zap Z802A082 needs to be applied to the SAS 7.50
Transient library.
SAS 8.2 and SAS 9.0:
These releases of the SAS System will need to download the
SAS 7.50 Transient Library and apply zap Z802A082 to the
SAS 7.50 Transient Library.
SAS 8.1:
Will need zap Z8014190 to force OE sockets in addition to
downloading the SAS 7.50 Transient Library and applying
zap Z802A082 to the SAS 7.50 Transient Library.
Any earlier releases of SAS that want to exploit the IBM Resolver will
also need the SAS 7.50 Transient Library and zap Z802A082 but will need
to contact Technical Support for the additional zap to force OE sockets.
The SAS 7.50 Transient Library is available via a hot fix, please refer
to SAS Note #010071 .
For zap z8014190, please refer to SAS Note #004190 .
Note:
A name resolver is a set of routines that act as a client on
behalf of an application to read a local host file or to access one
or more domain name servers (DNS) for name-to-address or address-to-name
resolution. Name resolution occurs by calling the name resolver
functions gethostbyname() and gethostbyaddr(). The RESOLVER does
not find the SERVICES file. To find the TCP/IP SERVICES file,
SAS will follow the search order documented in SAS NOTE #005683 .
This search order still applies to the SAS Transient library 7.50.
To find a TCP/IP SERVICES file outside of the default search order,
consider using the TCPIPPRF= SAS option or environment variables.
