In Version 6 of SAS/ACCESS Interfaces, the engine supported RANDOM
access.  In Version 7 and 8, the SAS/ACCESS Interface engines no longer
support RANDOM access by default.  Instead they support limited RANDOM
access (RMOD access) by default.  This change was made to avoid some
potential data integrity issues and will cause incompatibility problems
with some existing SAS programs using SAS/ACCESS to Oracle view
descriptors in it.  What used to work in SAS Version 6 will fail with an
error in SAS Version 7 and Version 8.  For example, DATA Step MODIFY/SET
statements that were supported in SAS Version 6 with view descriptors
will cause problems in SAS Version 7 and Version 8.  An error that may
be issued is:

  ERROR: File SASVIEW.NCADD.VIEW is sequential.  This task requires
         reading observations in a random order, but the engine allows
         only sequential access.

The recommended solution for this SAS Version 6 compatibility issue is
to change the programs using view descriptors to use LIBNAME views
instead and to use the LIBNAME option REREAD_EXPOSURE=YES which will
change the engine access mode to RANDOM.  This LIBNAME option should be
used with UPDATELOCK_TYPE=TABLE to avoid data integrity problems.

Another solution for SAS/ACCESS Interface to Oracle only, would be to
leave your code as is and add the system option:

  options debug=DBMS_REREAD_EXPOSURE_ON;

Be sure this option is set prior to SAS/ACCESS getting loaded.  Set this
at the very beginning of your code before any LIBNAMEs or anything with
SAS/ACCESS is ever done.
