Usage Note 69: V6 AIX catalogs are not compatible with V7/V8
When you attempt to read SAS V6 AIX catalogs with the V7 or V8 engine,
you will receive this error message:
ERROR: Initial read failure.
ERROR: Unable to open <some_catalog_member>. See LOG window.
You may also see this error:
ERROR: File format version 6 catalogs are not supported by this
release.
With V7 and V8 under UNIX, all SAS catalogs that are created will be
compatible and can be freely moved from one UNIX platform to another.
In order to allow this compatibility, the AIX V7/V8 catalog structure
had to be modified, and as a side effect, V6 catalogs on AIX boxes
*must* be transferred to V7/V8 in transport format. You will need to
create a transport file using PROC CPORT in V6, and then use PROC
CIMPORT in V8 to recreate the catalog(s).
AIX V6 data sets do not have this limitation, and the V7 or V8 engine
can read the V6 data sets without a conversion.
