SAS/OR Software, Release 8.2

What's New Highlights

SAS/OR software, a set of powerful management science tools, is an integral decision support component of the SAS System. The software includes tools for mathematical programming, scheduling, decision analysis, and drawing Gantt charts and network diagrams.

In Release 8.2, the BOM procedure, now production, works with lists of parts, ingredients and materials to construct multilevel bills of materials. These are indispensable in planning the scheduling and parts activities that are needed to manufacture complex products.

PROC CPM, at the heart of SAS/OR software's scheduling and project/resource management capabilities, adds more flexibility to the placement of milestones in projects and the recording of project work that is done outside normal working hours. These new features are also available in PROC PM, which adds a graphical user interface and easy what-if analysis to project and resource scheduling. PROC GANTT, which produces Gantt charts for project management, has enhanced its Web-enablement capabilities with the addition of HTML "hot spots" for milestones and project identifiers.

MP2KTOPM, a new SAS macro that is part of the PM procedure, converts Microsoft Project 2000 data from the MDB format to a form that is readable by the CPM and PM procedures. This enables users of Microsoft Project to take advantage of the superior scheduling and reporting capabilities of SAS. And finally, PROC INTPOINT provides another means for using the interior-point linear optimization method that was added recently to PROC NETFLOW.
