SAS/ASSIST Software, Release 8.2

What's New Highlights

SAS/ASSIST software is a menu-driven, task-oriented interface to SAS features and functionality. Many SAS customer sites use SAS/ASSIST software to empower end users of all experience levels with the ability to access data and produce analyses and reports.

The most significant new features in the 8.2 release of SAS/ASSIST software are metadata capabilities that greatly reduce the time it takes to access data -- especially for users who are accessing large amounts of data from remote sources. Data for use in SAS/ASSIST sessions is examined once when the application is invoked (or subsequently when requested) and metadata is created. Sites that have data warehouses or DBMS systems where users access many tables on remote servers will want to take advantage of this metadata capability.

In addition, metadata on the data sources that end users work with can be prepared ahead of time in a batch job and made available to SAS/ASSIST sessions. This enables administrators to build custom data environments to suit different needs. To help you make quick use of these new facilities, a sample SQL metadata-generating program is supplied.

In addition, a number of changes and enhancements were made to the workflow and user interface of SAS/ASSIST software.
